Looking for a promotion? Here is one that you have not heard of 

If you want a promotion, make sure you look for your successor. Think that is crazy? Well, at least give that another thought. When you feel like that you can move on from what you are doing now that means you are really good what you are doing. You had better be good at what you do and who you are. In order for you to move on this would mean that there will be a void that would need to be filled.

Problem is that most leader-managers do not plan ahead at this level. So what you have here is that besides of them having to figure out if and how your promotion would work, they also have the additional burden to find you successor. In most organizations this can be a real ordeal and may take a long time.

So if you want a promotion, make sure you worry as much about what you will do in the future, as also including paving the way for someone else to do what you are doing now. It is a win-win-win situation and makes you stick out of the crowd, because most folks cannot even think about this, much less actually take action.
