What do you want to be known for?
That was the recent question on the personal or business social media ranking site Klout. The more focused we can be, the clearer we stick out because we stand for something. I was a little perplexed when I asked myself this question. There are (too) many categories that I could come up with.
One strategy to combat confusion is asking your friends helping you figure this out. Give folks at work or at home a note card with a little homework: Let them come up with 7 attributes describing what you stand for. Be ready for some surprises. I did this a while back and the results ranged from the confirming, surprising, and outright entertaining.
Once you have the results compare and contrast them with what you thought they should be considering your passion and desires for the future.

My ambition is very simple. At my funeral I want folks to say “He left the world a little better than he found it.” Not always, maybe not big things, but on balance better.
